General description

Deep-type racks are also called drive-in, drive-through or more often in English - "drive-in" or " drive-through" . They are a rigid frame structure made of frames that form "channels" 1350-1450 mm wide, inside which pallets with cargo are placed along the guide. Racks of this design are quite common and ensure maximum use of the warehouse volume.

In essence, push-in racks are an improved rack-free storage system, but with the best access to the cargo and higher reliability of its storage. That is why such a system is often used when placing goods for long-term storage in cold stores. The main advantage of push-in racks is a very high level of warehouse volume utilization (one of the best indicators among all types of racks).

Our company supplies both standard configurations and complex designs with individual characteristics.

Types of printed shelving

Single-sided stacking rack (LIFO principle)

The standard configuration is drive-in racks. These racks are loaded and unloaded from only one side (drive-in) and operate on a first-in, last-out basis. This configuration for a warehouse or production facility does not offer high processing speeds, but this disadvantage is offset by high storage density, which is especially important in expensive refrigerated and freezer warehouses.

Pass-through printed
racking (FIFO principle)

Two-way drive-through configuration (drive-through). The loading and unloading zones of such racks are located on opposite sides of the channel. Cargo turnover is carried out on the principle: first in, first out. This implementation of pallet placement makes it possible to significantly increase the processing speed. Drive-through racks are rationally used when storing goods of one nomenclature with a limited shelf life.

About arranging pallet warehouses: stackable racks

Increasing capacity: how stackable racks are changing the rules of the logistics game

These metal structures allow the use of the entire volume of the building, which increases the density of pallet storage up to 80%. Stackable racks take inventory management efficiency to a new level by allowing more pallets to be placed in the same volume and reducing the cost per location. They are the ideal choice for any business looking to optimize their space.

The main advantage of this solution is that it allows to maximize the storage density and optimize the pallet movement processes. The forklift, which is used to load and remove palletized goods, raises the pallets to the height of the required level and drives inside the structure, lowering them onto guides located on both sides of each level. Thanks to this method of placement and movement, there is no need for aisles between each row, and therefore the area that was traditionally used for such aisles can be used for storage.

Overall, stacking racking systems offer a powerful solution for warehouses looking to maximize storage capacity and optimize space utilization. They provide secure stacking of goods that are not stable enough to be stacked, and allow for efficient use of any warehouse space.

Modifications of printed racks:

Drive-in racks

Drive-in pallet racking is the most common type of racking system, requiring only one aisle for the forklift. It uses the LIFO (last in, first out) principle for handling goods; the levels are filled starting from the pallet spaces furthest from the entrance, so that the last pallets are closest to the aisle and are removed first.

Deep drive-in racks are recommended for slow cargo turnover. They are ideal for companies that need to process and distribute serial supplies of long-term storage. Drive-in is the optimal solution for arranging low-temperature warehouses with freezers, and others where the storage of goods requires energy-intensive special conditions.

These racks allow you to manage space as efficiently as possible and reduce energy costs, which is an important factor for businesses.

Drive-through racks

This solution requires two entrances, one on each side of the rack. The FIFO (first in, first out) method is used for handling goods, i.e. the first item loaded is the first item unloaded. In drive-through systems, loading and unloading occur from opposite sides. Since access is possible from both the front and the back, they are suitable for relatively fast turnover of goods.

Advantages

The main advantages of printed shelving are:

  1. Maximum compaction and space optimization, as well as perfect inventory control,

  2. Low maintenance and installation costs make this system one of the most cost-effective,

  3. Compatibility with other storage systems.

  4. Provides maximum performance, and the use of available space can be up to 80%,

  5. Provides clearly organized logistics management with full control of inventories, as well as transport and service flows,

  6. Ideal for storing similar types of goods with low rotation frequency,

  7. No special loading and unloading equipment is required for operation, as standard forklifts can be used.

Disadvantages

  1. Drive-in racking may not be suitable for all types of merchandise due to the last-in, first-out inventory system.

  2. There is a risk of damage to drive-in racks by forklifts due to the high traffic intensity and tight space inside the system.

  3. Poor management can make it easier to lose merchandise on drive-in racks.

  4. Accessing pallets that are not in the front may require double manipulation.

  5. The nature of cargo handling is prone to voids. This occurs when operators do not place pallets at the back of the rack, resulting in a loss of storage capacity.

Main areas of application

This is a common and widely used universal shelving system for inventory management, both FIFO and LIFO.

We recommend its use in the following situations:

  • for compact storage in rooms with limited free space or with a high cost per square meter of space;

  • when there is a need to store homogeneous products of one article with a large number of pallets and slow turnover;

  • for goods that stay in the warehouse for a long time (for Drive-in);

  • for perishable products with limited shelf life (for Drive-through);

  • when direct access to unit loads is not required;

  • for freezers, due to the need to seal and optimize space for proper temperature distribution and cost savings.

TOP LOGISTICS SOLUTIONS offers a comprehensive turnkey solution, from drawings to implementation, regardless of whether you need a stand-alone shelving system, want to include a shelving solution as part of a large-scale warehouse construction or renovation project, or are just at the decision-making and price analysis stage.
